OVERVIEW

Experience the diverse landscapes and wildlife of northern and central Kenya with this 8-Day Northern Discovery Safari. From the misty mountain forests of the Aberdares to the arid wilderness of Samburu, the flamingo-filled shores of Lake Nakuru, and the big-cat country of Masai Mara, this safari is a perfect blend of scenic beauty, wildlife encounters, and cultural immersion.

Ideal for travelers who want to explore Kenya’s lesser-known northern gems while still enjoying the classic highlights of the Great Rift Valley and Masai Mara.

ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 1 – Nairobi to Aberdare Safari Club

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive to the lush highlands of the Aberdares, where cool air, dense forests, and mountain streams create a tranquil escape. Arrive in time for lunch at the Aberdare Safari Club, a peaceful retreat overlooking the forest. Spend your afternoon at leisure or enjoy a short guided nature walk in the surrounding area.
Dinner and overnight at Aberdare Safari Club.

Day 2 – Aberdare to Samburu Game Reserve

After breakfast, descend from the highlands and drive north to the rugged terrain of Samburu National Reserve, crossing the equator along the way. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, followed by your first afternoon game drive. Look out for Samburu’s rare “northern species” — the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk.
Dinner and overnight at Samburu Simba Lodge / Elephant Bedroom Camp.

Day 3 – Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives along the Ewaso Nyiro River, where elephants and crocodiles gather. Samburu offers excellent photographic opportunities and is home to lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Between drives, relax at your lodge or visit a Samburu village to experience their rich cultural traditions.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4 – Samburu to Lake Nakuru National Park

After an early breakfast, head south toward Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its pink flamingos and rhino sanctuary. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Rift Valley, arriving in time for lunch. Later, embark on an afternoon game drive to spot white and black rhinos, leopards, and waterbucks along the lakeshore.
Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge / Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 5 – Full Day in Lake Nakuru

Spend a relaxed day exploring the park’s acacia woodlands and lakeside plains. Lake Nakuru is also home to pelicans, buffalo, and giraffes. Climb to Baboon Cliff for breathtaking views of the park below.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 6 – Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, journey to the world-famous Masai Mara, Kenya’s top safari destination and home to the Big Five. Arrive for lunch at your lodge, then enjoy an afternoon game drive through the vast plains dotted with acacia trees.
Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge / Ashnil Mara Camp.

Day 7 – Full Day in Masai Mara

Today you’ll have a full day of game viewing in the Masai Mara. Witness lions, cheetahs, elephants, and hippos in their natural habitat. Between drives, enjoy a picnic lunch by the Mara River, where crocodiles and hippos thrive. Optional hot-air balloon safari or Maasai village visit available.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8 – Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning drive as you leave the Mara behind. Return to Nairobi with memories of spectacular landscapes, rare wildlife, and unforgettable cultural experiences. Drop-off at your hotel or airport.
